Topic:  Endpoint Security: Today and Beyond- 

This presentation  covers a brief discussion on the endpoint security technologies available today and popularly deployed to protect laptops, desktops, servers against network attacks and misuse. It will also address the philosophy of protection vs. enforcement, and a brief look at the future of endpoint security.

Audra Eng is responsible for defining product strategy, creating the product roadmap, and driving the delivery of market-leading Enterprise Endpoint Security solutions at Sygate Technologies, Inc. 
Prior to joining Sygate, Audra was Director of Product Management at Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS). In this role, Audra set strategic direction for ISS' software line, including the intrusion detection and vulnerability assessment products for protecting desktops, servers and networks. Prior to ISS, Audra held senior technical consultant positions with Sprint Paranet and 3M.

Topic: Understanding Network Discovery and Attack: Help for the Admin ; Part 2

This presentation gives realistic examples of the appearance and evidence to look for to uncover discovery and attack activity on networked systems. This is a good introduction for monitoring and evidence gathering, and a handy tutorial and reference guide for security folk and Administrators.

Joanne Ashland is a highly experienced security specialist with true, hands-on experience with a wide range of audit and security tools. She is a long-time member of ISSA, who currently holds board positions on both the South Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast chapters of ISSA.  Joanne also teaches graduate-level Information Security courses as an adjunct professor for the University of Houston. In June, 2003, the ISSA International Awards committee selected Joanne as recipient of the ISSA's prestigious  "2002 Security Professional of the Year" award and presented her award at the ISSA Annual Conference in Chicago.

Topic: The Legal Environment for Data Security

This presentation discusses the areas of legal liability for information storage.  The requirements of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley are discussed as well as various state and international statutes that affect Texas companies.  There is increased sensitivity to privacy and computer negligence fed by these increased statutory requirements, and examples of pitfalls in these private action suits are discussed.  The presentation addresses required features of a document retention policy through an analysis of what and how data may be requested, and analyzes some of the areas where IT professionals may develop personal liability.

Speaker:   Joe Dryer,   BreakAwaySystems , LLC.  Joe Dryer is a Texas attorney with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, a JD and an MBA.  He has worked for IBM, Schlumberger, the SuperCollider and Emerson.  Dr. Dryer is also the author of several treatises on professional legal liability of computer system security lapses.

This presentation emphasizes the importance and "how to's" of securing routers from a device management standpoint rather than securing specific routing protocols. It provides a good mix of technical and security management guidelines.

Craig Biggerstaff is currently a Security Consultant with Omitron, Inc. Craig has provided system, network and security engineering support for NASA and various NASA-JSC contractors over the past 12 years. Craig's experience includes architecture, design, installation, administration and risk assessment, and he has successfully completed the formal NSA InfoSec Assessment Methodology course.
